Introduction

A Major North American Communications provider client managed story-point demand planning entirely in a sprawling Excel workbook. The process was manual, slow to refresh, error-prone, and offered little visibility across delivery towers and program increments. DayBlink Consulting designed and delivered an automated Demand Tracker dashboard that ingests the same data, models capacity against historical baselines and lets leaders drill into any PI, tower or product team instantly. The entire solution went from concept to production in days by leveraging AI.

Problem

Our client’s demand planning lived in a single, overgrown Excel workbook that was painful to maintain and impossible to scale

Story-point demand across nine delivery towers and nine program increments was tracked by hand in Excel. Every refresh meant copying figures between tabs, rebuilding pivots, and reconciling totals manually. A single update could take hours, and the workbook had grown too large and fragile to extend with new views or scenarios.

Leaders could not easily compare demand to historical capacity, drill into a product team, or model what-if scenarios. Reporting was reactive and error-prone, insights arrived late, and the manual effort consumed time that should have gone to planning. The client needed an automated, accurate and visual tool.

Solution

Our team replaced the manual spreadsheet with an automated, interactive Demand Tracker dashboard

DayBlink Consulting reimagined the client’s manual workbook as a single automated application. Working directly from the existing data, the team designed an interactive dashboard that refreshes instantly and presents demand by program increment, delivery tower, workstream and product team. What previously took hours of manual effort now updates the moment new data is loaded, eliminating copy-paste reconciliation and the errors that came with it.

The dashboard adds capabilities beyond those of the original spreadsheet. Leaders can switch between stacked, grouped and trend views, drill from any program increment into the underlying towers and product teams, and compare demand against the historical sprint baseline to flag over- and under-capacity at a glance. A built-in override panel supports live what-if scenario modeling; and, one click exports a fully formatted workbook.

By using AI to accelerate design, data modeling, and front-end development, DayBlink Consulting compressed what would traditionally be a multi-week build into a few working sessions, delivering immediate value to the planning team.

The result is a faster, more accurate, and far more capable planning tool. Demand figures that once lived in a fragile workbook are now visualized clearly and consistently, insights surface in seconds instead of hours, and the planning team can explore scenarios on demand. The dashboard gives the client a single, trusted source of truth—and a foundation that can keep expanding as needs grow.

The Demand Tracker dashboard delivers a transparent, dynamic view of demand that updates the moment data is loaded. Leaders monitor program totals, capacity status, and tower-level detail in one place, with interactive charts and drill-downs replacing static tabs. The tool keeps every stakeholder aligned around a single, trusted source of truth instead of scattered spreadsheet versions.

Beyond simply digitizing the old report, the dashboard adds capabilities the workbook never had: multiple chart modes, PI and product-team drill-downs, a capacity-versus-baseline view, live override and what-if modeling, and one-click export to a formatted workbook. Together these features let the planning team move from manual data wrangling to genuine analysis and decision-making.

The speed of delivery proved the approach. By using AI to accelerate design and development, the dashboard went from idea to production in days rather than weeks—giving the client an immediate, accurate, and scalable replacement for a process that used to consume hours of manual effort every cycle. The same method can now be reused to build the next tool the team needs.

Outcome

From a spreadsheet no one fully trusted to a single source of truth for the entire program

DayBlink Consulting transformed the client’s manual Excel demand-planning process into an automated, interactive Demand Tracker dashboard. The new tool eliminated hours of repetitive reporting each cycle, removed the errors that came with copy-paste reconciliation, and gave leaders instant, reliable visibility into demand and capacity.

DayBlink Consulting built the solution hand-in-hand with the planning team, mirroring their existing data while adding capabilities the workbook never had: multiple chart views, drill-downs, capacity-versus-baseline analysis, live what-if modeling, and one-click export to a formatted workbook.

What once required manual rebuilding now updates the instant new data is loaded, and the dashboard serves as a single, trusted source of truth for the entire program—replacing a patchwork of emailed spreadsheet versions.

Most strikingly, the entire tool moved from concept to production in a matter of days by leveraging AI across design, data modeling, and development. The engagement proves that modern AI-accelerated delivery can replace fragile, manual processes with faster, more accurate, and more capable tools—and lay a foundation the team can keep building on.
