ENGAGEMENT

For the automation team at a large technology company, DayBlink Consulting designed and automated a variety of workflows across several cloud platforms (including AWS & GCP) including reducing the manual steps from the Cloud marketplace through provisioning. We were asked to design and build AWS-centric and bespoke (RPA-based) solutions to obtain, validate and update data through streamlined workflows, allowing for end-to-end automation.

PROBLEM

The organization had newly created an Automation team responsible for identifying areas of ‘toil’ across the organization and leveraging technology to automate wherever possible. One team in IT was spending an inordinate amount of time obtaining authorization and then approving, provisioning, monitoring, and deprovisioning public cloud instances in AWS and GCP. The required processes were onerous and complex despite the availability of provisioning and orchestration solutions so the organization sought a new approach that could be vastly streamlined.

SOLUTION

DayBlink Consulting collected business requirements and proposed a far simpler provisioning workflow that could leverage the automation capabilities of AWS, GCP and the client’s internal tech stack. The team then determined points of automation, obtained access to platforms, constructed the future state architecture and built an RPA bot to handle most of the abnormal issues. Next we integrated with the AWS and GCP service catalogs and another RPA bot to separate internally required information from 3rd party vendor information. Finally we integrated the security check process so that normal requests could be entirely automated through provisioning.

RESULT

The IT organization’s internal customers reported increased satisfaction concurrent with a decrease in dedicated staff. Over the following year, two team members were retasked, and the new process required only one FTE. At the same time, Cloud demand quadrupled, resulting in an increased effectiveness of 12x and a savings of ~$400K/year in labor costs.
