ENGAGEMENT

A major healthcare provider desired to systematically upskill its cybersecurity team to enhance capabilities. DayBlink Consulting was tasked with devising a Community of Practice (CoP) charter, kicking off the programs, developing a playbook for future establishment and operations, and creating a readout presentation for leadership that would highlight the benefits and accomplishments of the CoPs.

PROBLEM

The cybersecurity team lacked a structured approach to share knowledge and collaborate effectively. These issues were exacerbated by a rapidly changing threat landscape, making it essential for the organization to enhance its technological maturity. The team sought help in identifying ways to improve its cybersecurity maturity through the development of Communities of Practice (CoP).

SOLUTION

DayBlink Consulting began by collecting leadership goals from stakeholders to design a CoP charter. This involved understanding both the short and long-term objectives of the cybersecurity capabilities and how CoPs could support these goals. The next step was to plan and facilitate CoP workshops with executive resources. These workshops were crucial in aligning the vision and goals of the CoPs with the broader organizational strategy. DayBlink Consulting then led conceptual design working sessions with key stakeholders from cross-functional teams. This collaborative approach ensured that the CoPs were designed to meet the specific needs and challenges of the organization. Addressing program questions for pilot CoPs from department employees was another critical step. DayBlink Consulting ensured that any concerns or uncertainties were resolved before the launch. Once the planning was complete, the team prepared a launch calendar, defined success metrics and kicked off the pilot CoPs. This included setting clear timelines and expectations for the CoP activities. We developed comprehensive playbooks for CoP leaders to ensure consistent and effective management of the communities. These playbooks included guidelines, best practices and templates for various CoP activities, providing a structured approach to managing and sustaining the CoPs.

RESULT

The implementation of CoPs had a transformative impact on the healthcare client’s cybersecurity capabilities. The CoPs fostered a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing across the organization. Employees from different departments and levels were able to come together to discuss challenges, share insights, and develop solutions. Through regular CoP sessions, employees were able to learn about and leverage existing technologies more effectively. This led to better utilization of tools and resources, optimizing the organization’s cybersecurity capabilities. The CoPs also served as a platform for exploring and evaluating new technologies, enabling the organization to stay ahead of emerging threats and adopt cutting-edge solutions that best fit their needs. Participation in CoPs provided employees with opportunities for continuous learning and professional development. The establishment of clear success metrics and regular progress tracking ensured that the CoPs remained aligned with organizational goals. By establishing and nurturing Communities of Practice, the organization was able to leverage collective knowledge, improve technology utilization and stay ahead of industry trends. The client has periodically informed us when they launch a new CoP – indicating the program is still operating successfully years later.
