ENGAGEMENT

The Integration and Automation team of a leading cybersecurity company engaged DayBlink Consulting to lead the transition to an API led central orchestration model to reduce the complexity and maintenance required of their legacy point-to-point integration architecture. We were responsible for designing the setup, configuration, and deployment of the new platform into our clients infrastructure. Post deployment, we were responsible for operationalizing the program, including prioritizing integration opportunities to transition to the new platform, and managing the software development lifecycle for new integrations.

PROBLEM

The integration team responsible for all enterprise system integrations had to maintain hundreds of point-to-point integrations for a rapidly expanding business. With their continued growth, the number of applications and technology used to run its business (i.e. SaaS, big data, mobile, etc.), and the number of connections lead to an exponential increase in complexity, making it difficult to manage and scale. Their point-to-point model was inflexible, required a high maintenance overhead, and lacked centralized monitoring capability.

SOLUTION

The deployment of a central API orchestrator was the path to reducing point to point integrations, increasing scalability, and reducing development time and effort. DayBlink Consulting led the transition to a central API orchestrator by mobilizing the implementation of the project by defining the scope and approach, expected outcomes, and the definition of done. Additionally, DayBlink Consulting led the effort to create solution requirements and design for the architectural and environmental components. After finalizing the requirements we ensured that the installation, setup, and configuration of the platform was built according to those requirements.

In parallel, DayBlink Consulting designed and operationalized standard operating procedures for ingesting, grooming, and prioritizing automation and integration requests from the organization. We set up and configured a work management system to ingest requests and developed rigor around reviewing them in a timely manner. We marketed the integration teams services across the organization so that teams could request integration support once the solution was successfully deployed.

RESULT

DayBlink Consulting successfully quarterbacked the deployment of a central API orchestrator and created a process to ingest integration opportunities from external teams. This resulted in quicker concept-to-deployment time frames, improved scalability with repurposable APIs, enhanced real-time visibility and monitoring capabilities, and reduced strain on the automation/integration team.

Within 2 months of implementation, the automation/integration team ingested more than 20 new proposed integration projects using the newly implemented operating procedure, and prioritized them based on impact to the organization and reusability of the API. The team deployed numerous integrations at a faster pace, streamlined development efforts and reduced redundancy.
