A major F500 technology embarked on a large-scale digital transformation involving the full migration from its on-premises infrastructure to a multi-cloud environment. Our client, the cybersecurity division, was tasked with fully modernizing the security practices to align with the new multi-cloud environment. Our client had to conduct rigorous security reviews for every component across the organization migrating to ensure compliance and security. Moreover, it had to migrate its own workloads to the cloud.

PROBLEM

The client faced a multifaceted set of challenges due to the scale and complexity of the migration. With thousands of components requiring security reviews, there was a pressing need to prioritize various workstreams while simultaneously identifying potential cost-saving opportunities. Key to this support was the development of a robust and adaptive financial planning framework, including a detailed 5-year operational expenditure (OpEx) budget and a 6-year forecast for projected cloud costs. This financial tool proved crucial for effectively managing the substantial costs associated with the migration and ongoing cloud operations.

In addition to financial planning, DayBlink addressed capacity issues by developing a new security review capability, which helped the team secure additional funding. DayBlink Consulting also established effective communication channels and governance structures to ensure smooth progress throughout the migration. By tracking and reporting on migration progress, we provided transparency, oversight and a structured approach that helped mitigate risks.

RESULT

The client successfully transitioned to a multi-cloud environment. All migrations and associated projects were completed on schedule and within the allocated budget. The efforts included hiring over 30 external resources to bolster the cybersecurity division’s capacity and realizing significant cost savings opportunities throughout the migration process.
