ENGAGEMENT

A Media & Communications client faced significant challenges with its legacy cybersecurity approaches. The team relied heavily on manual processes, requiring numerous resources to dedicate their full attention daily. Although industry tools were available, none completely satisfied the organization’s specific needs. To address this gap, the client decided to adopt an industry tool overlaid with custom-built features to meet its service requirements. DayBlink Consulting was engaged to lead this transformation, managing both the vendor and internal resources to modernize the product and achieve greater service efficiency.

PROBLEM

The cybersecurity team at the client organization was overburdened by the manual input and tooling required to deliver comprehensive security services to customers. These tasks were technically complex and required high-value resources to spend most of their time completing them. This high demand often led to insufficient review processes before changes were pushed to production environments, increasing the organization’s risk. Additionally, customers were frequently frustrated by the service’s functionality and experienced delays that blocked their application launches. Recognizing these issues, the client determined that a new product was necessary to enhance the security team’s capabilities and efficiency. The proposed solution involved integrating an off-the-shelf product with custom automation, enabling users to fill out forms that would generate the required action items and track them in work management tools such as Jira.

SOLUTION

DayBlink Consulting assumed the role of program management office, overseeing the vendor and internal resources, managing the roadmap and development cycle, and ensuring quality assurance to meet the required specifications. The primary goal of modernizing the product was to increase the security organization’s review throughput. DayBlink Consulting’s approach involved developing a structured and efficient process for implementation and ensuring that the new product design incorporated the relevant internal customer requirements. By collaborating closely with all stakeholders, DayBlink ensured that the new system allowed recurring activities to run without manual intervention. The system also automatically assigned findings to the respective owners, streamlining the workflow and maintaining headcount and investment levels.

RESULT

After implementation the security organization tripled its review output, processing over 100 customer requests of varying criticality within the first year. The total cycle time for completing a request was reduced by more than 50%, significantly accelerating product development and improving the user experience for product teams. The volume and consistency of findings increased, allowing security resources to allocate more time to proactive functions within the security organization. Positive feedback from the product teams highlighted the ease of use and user-friendly experience of the new system. The streamlined processes and increased efficiency not only met the organization’s needs but also enhanced overall satisfaction among internal and external stakeholders. The client achieved significant improvements in efficiency and service delivery. This transformation allowed the security team to handle more requests, reduce cycle times, and focus on proactive security measures, ultimately positioning the organization for future success in a rapidly evolving industry.
